endemic to China (last wild animal was shot near the Yellow Sea in 1939), in the mid-1980s, Pere David’s deer was re-introduced into captive facilities in China, and populations established in Beijing, Dafeng, Tianezhou and Yuanyang

herbivores, their diet consists mainly of grasses and many aquatic plants during summer 

social, live in large herds
