The Eastern Casquehead Iguana is a bright green long-tailed reptile that inhabits the tropical rainforest. The tail occupies up to two-thirds of its total length. It usually lives solitary, possibly one male with three females. Males and females only meet a few times a year to mate. It inhabits wetland shrubs and trees and rarely descends to the ground. It is not a very good hunter – it can sunbathe for days, even when prey is crawling on its back – waiting for it to crawl in front of its mouth.

The Eastern Casquehead Iguana is threatened by climate change, degradation and loss of habitat – deforestation – logging and conversion to farmland.
